Walking through the front door of the impressive restaurant, easily the best one Natalie has been to since she left home to go to college, she feels better. On the arm of one of the most established plantation owners in the South, she feels elevated by association. He walks her to the hostess stand where three gorgeous women in sexy but subdued dresses are working three separate computer terminals. One of them looks up and smiles at Clayton as they approach the stand.

“How can I help you?” she asks Clayton with a quick, cursory glance at Natalie. When her gaze goes back to the man on her arm, Natalie peers over the stand to assess her more fully - she’s tall but a bit wide in the hips and lacking up top, making her proportions out of balance. The dress does little to hide her deficiencies. Her makeup is overdone but the lighting is subdued so it’s passable if not ideal. Her dark hair is piled on top of her head in a loose bun, held in place by a hidden pin or perhaps a barrette. She might be several years older than Natalie, though, which says little about her career choices.

“Two for dinner, and please let Anton know Henry Clayton is here,” he says with a deeper-than-usual tone to Natalie’s ear.

“Of course,” the hostess says with a noticeable bounce in her demeanor at the mention of what Natalie can only assume is the head chef or perhaps the owner, a technique she’s seen her father use countless times over the years. The hostess picks up a menu and a wine list and leads them through the crowded dining room to one of the premier tables in the center of the facility. Natalie scans the other diners as they make their way through the maze until her attention is captured by a couple at the table next to theirs - the man is about Clayton’s age and his dining companion is a bit older than Natalie, but the fact that she’s collared and naked stuns the girl.

“Suzette will be with you in a moment to take your drink orders,” the hostess says as she hands the menus to Clayton while ignoring Natalie. As she walks away, Natalie leans forward and catches Clayton’s eye so that he follows suit.

“They allow slaves to eat in here?” she whispers, her eyes wide.

“Why wouldn’t they?” he responds with a smirk.

“It’s just such a high-end place, obviously.” She tilts her head but he doesn’t respond, looking at the menu instead.

“Would you care for a cocktail or a glass of wine?” he asks as he peruses the extensive wine list.

“I’ll have whatever you’re having,” Natalie tells him even though she’d rather have vodka than scotch or bourbon. “Is feeding your slave a premium meal common?” He ignores her question until he’s apparently made a selection from the list, and then he looks around the dining room.

“As you can see, it’s not the rule, generally, but it happens.
